I created these three black necklaces upon a request for "beaded, big and black" necklaces. Notice the increase in the size of the pendants -- the first image shows my idea of 'big' (approx. 60x40mm center part and the fringe adds about 100mm of length), but that was not large enough, and so the last one I created was in size (approx. 130x150mm center part) that is more likely to meet the customer's idea of "the bigger - the better".
I hope my customer likes the larger pendant...It's huge in my eyes, and I had to challenge and stretch my designing abilities beyond my personal taste, which is a good thing...I think...I'm not sure... Maybe the need to "listen to my own voice" while designing is the reason I don't usually do commissioned work. Need to think about it more.
After working continuously on these three black necklaces, I needed a break from black, so I played with wire for a while and created this wire wrapped pendant. I had a few tough, discouraging moments while I constructed the part that holds the large carnelian bead, but the rest was very pleasing to do. I like how the design came out (although I still need more practice!). What do you think?...
I love the first one Smadar, will you be posting instructions?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Leah! I see that we both have the same taste :)
ReplyDeleteNo instructions for this one, though, sorry...
Hello,Smadar:-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful necklaces.Different style this time. Also different colors and bigger pieces of gemstones used.
All of them are equally unigue-the black is balanced by warm colors in a fantastic way.
Warm Greetings-Halinka-
Thank you, Halinka! Indeed, these were all designed according to the request of the customer for ethnic style jewelry...
ReplyDeleteThey're all beautiful, Smadar! It is difficult, sometimes, to meet the customers' expectations when they don't really give you much to guide you; but I think you did a wonderful job! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, MaryLou! It is difficult, but also most interesting process.. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love all three of them, but probably couldn't wear the third. Each has its own unique style and qualities. What a lucky customer to get to choose from the three. I think my favorite may be the second; it's so organic.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful wire work, btw!
Thank you, Carol! The customer will probably buy all three, and then *I* will be lucky... ;)
ReplyDeleteAll are fabulous :)
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
-Eva Maria
Good work of a talented man!
ReplyDeleteLove them all, I think the wire piece came out very well, it is always good to keep making these things though, practice makes perfect as they say
ReplyDeleteHello Smadar,
ReplyDeleteAll four necklaces are gorgeous, of the three black ones, I really like the first one. I am like you the first one is big enough. The second one I would wear also, although bigger than I like, it looks like it would be comfortable to wear. The third one is just way to big for my taste, but I know a couple of women that would think it is the perfect size. The wire wrapping is very nice on the fourth necklace. I love the gemstone you used.
Therese
Beautiful work Smadar....I love your wire worked piece...despite you saying " I still need more practice!" I think you did a fantastic job on it...all your pieces show an excellent balance of colour. Beautiful, beautiful work :o)
ReplyDeleteNice job on the black pieces - I would like to have seen a little more substantial rope/chain on the 2 larger pendants.
ReplyDeleteThey are big and oh so beautiful. I love seeing your work!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!!!!!!!!! I like big pieces!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, each & everyone of you!
ReplyDeleteRobbie, I am glad you liked the wire pendant as it is! I haven't worked with wire enough times to make me feel comfortable with the basics and the pendant is not perfect in my eyes, so I guess I still need to practice, like Lynsey said.. :)
Helen, I must say that I agree with you about the chains, but only for the largest one... thanks!
Wonderful necklaces, I love them all!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Szikati!
ReplyDeletewonderful pieces, fantastic.
ReplyDeleteClaudia
